That extra layer

Tuesday, 4 October 2016

So its October and the weather is starting to turn. Its still not 'big coat' time but another layer is definitely needed. What's your options?

Having embracing the school run before I head to work , I realise the need for something with warmth, easy to put on in the car and stylish at the same time! That's a lot of functions in one. I hate being too hot running to school when we are late! So here are my picks for adding an extra layer without over heating and looking stylish at the same time.

The Coatigan

One of your wardrobes must have items. What's great about a Coatigan is that its warm enough to wear both inside and outside. Long enough to keep the chill off the bottom and knitted to keep you warm without being too padded.  This monochrome Bellfield coatigan is a great choice and at £39.99 its a price that's on budget.

Gilet

The waistcoat is a perfect choice for adding a layer over a jumper. Keeping your core warm, a gilet is practical and also very slimming on as it visually brings in the body. A knitted gilet tends to be longer and can be worn daytime over a dress or top and jeans. This herringbone knitted gilet is a winner. I haven't actually taken mine off yet as it just works with everything!

For anyone wanting a shorter style, then opt for a furry gilet. These are always shorter in the body and tend to be just that little bit smarter for nights out as as well as day. If you have a plain wardrobe then opting for an ombre or tonal gilet maybe a good option for you to add some print. However if wear printed tops or scarves then stick to a plain colour gilet. I would opt for a neutral colour of black or nude for a gilet as this will work with everything.  This is the second season we have chosen the Ichi furry gilet as it is so super soft and fits like a glove, the best ive seen around.

Sarah Harding looks great in her black furry gilet.

As well as adding an extra layer on the body, its time for me to introduce new boots into my look! This year its all about the ankle Chelsea boot. I am actually investing in a black and tan pair as I just love wearing boots so much and a cropped boot can be worn with both a dress or jeans. I love these leather buckle boots.

So have fun finding your new layer, I love October weather and even more love October clothes!
