Autumn has arrived which although means cooler weather does also mean that the new season clothes are now in the shops! September is an exciting time of year in the fashion calendar as it sparks the start of new trends and colours bursting onto the scene. It’s the perfect time of year to plan and get your new winter wardrobe whilst the shops have full sizes and colours. Leaving it too late will mean disappointment, so if you see your favourite knit – Get it now! This month I have given a guide to your essential winder wardrobe, providing you with key pieces that are a must have to see you through the winter. Have fun shopping!

Outerwear

In the lead up to colder weather I think its essential to have a lightweight jacket that can be worn for warmer days and or layered up for when you are going places especially in and out of the car. For this reason the biker jacket is the perfect option.

This khaki biker jacket is lightweight and a gorgeous colour that works well with black, brown and denim. The length of this jacket sits just below the waist which is a very flattering shape as its draws attention to your waist instead of your hips. A great piece to wear for day or for night over your top or dress.

For the colder days and to get wrapped up the Parka jacket is a must have. This season sees the revival of the parka jacket which is great as it’s just so practical. Whether it’s to wear for the school run or for wearing on trips out, wearing a Parka jacket will put you bang on trend. This fur trim parka is super stylish and practical at the same time. Fur is big news again this winter so having a fur trimmed hood adds a touch of glamour and style to this coat.

Knitwear goes without saying is another must have winter purchase. I would recommend buying a nice knitted jumper or two plus a cardigan to complete your winter woollies need! Jumpers don’t have to be boring and dull. I particularly like ones with some added detail on. This chiffon back jumper is a great style. The looser shape is flattering on all shapes plus the chiffon back gives it a smarter look, ideal if you want to wear out for drink or lunch whilst staying warm!

Last but not least is a good pair of jeans! My advice is do not buy cheap as it’s a false economy. I’m not talking about spending hundreds of pounds,  but buying super cheap jeans just means that they will be mis-shapen far quicker and sag which will not do anything for your figure. Buying a good pair of jeans that fit well and that are made well with the right composition of cotton and elastic can really transform your bum!

Waven jeans

I am loving these Waven jeans that are priced at £45. The fit are designer inspired and made to stretch to fit your figure. The colour is a lovely distressed blue which look fab with tan boots. Make sure your jeans are tight when you buy them as all jeans will naturally soften slightly.

New Autumn Trends

A big look that continues on from the summer is the skirt suit. Whether you opt for a matching top and skirt in the same print or go free style and make your own suit, it’s all about wearing the cropped top with the midi length skirt. Whether you choose a full or pencil skirt, the top must be shorter so as to flatter your figure and draw attention to the waist. This gorgeous mulberry coloured skirt suit is perfect to wear day or night. It’s a striking set that looks the part on a night out but could easily be worn separate for another look entirely. Keep an eye on the celebs as this is a trend that all the stars will be wearing.

Following the success of the kimono this summer, we can expect to see many capes, ponchos and knitted kimonos this winter. This is good news as they are so versatile and can be worn by any age, size or shape. They are great as an alternative to a coat and provide a stylish way to wrap up. Mostly one size, it’s just a case of choosing your colour and going for it!

I love buying a new pair of boots, especially as I spend so much time wearing them! This year the riding boot still remains strong but there is also the introduction of boots with added trims from chain mail to sheepskin. These wedge boots are a gorgeous tan colour and feature a sheepskin fold to add that touch of detail. I will definitely be investing in a pair of these at £60!

With her new store opening in London Victoria Beckham has certainly carved her way into the fashion industry as an established designer. Here she is wearing a tailored pair of trousers with chunky tank top. I think this is setting the scene of what we can expect to see in her new stylish collection. I love it!

Question and Answer

I love to wear dresses but as it gets colder I get stuck on what to wear during the day, what options have a got?

I agree, I love wearing dresses to and the best way of wearing your dresses are to team with a pair of opaque tights for coverage and warmth! Failing that there are lots of midi length dresses that are ideal for wearing through the winter as they are that bit longer and look great with a pair of shoe boots or pumps. I particularly like this vintage rose print midi dress as its both longer length and has sleeves! I would accessorize with a low slung belt and shoe boot for a stylish feminine winter look.
