Holiday Summer Essentials

Thursday, 26 April 2018

It's that time of year when we are starting to think of the getaways and holidays that we've booked. Every year I say to myself "I'm not taking as much as last year" and I still end up taking far too much! It doesn't matter what happens I think I need to pack for every eventuality!

Too much luggage

The thing is that I seem to always stick to the same items on holiday so I thought if I wrote a blog about it then I can try and ingrain these essentials into me before I start packing!!

It all starts with what to wear when travelling. If like me you have 2 children that are constantly on the go, then comfort and practicality is a must. I cant be wearing a pretty summer dress whilst bending down attending to my 2 year old, no one wants to see that!  The key to your travelling outfit is comfort and to layer up. Always wear your heavier shoes whilst travelling so it leaves some valuable packing space and saves on the luggage weight!

So here's option 1. A lovely soft jersey jumpsuit that glides over you, moving with you and ultra comfort. Teamed with the Rose Gold Ichi trainers, this is a winning outfit. Style with a breton top underneath, this could be whipped off if you are hot when you arrive.

Option 2 is separates. I often travel in jeans (always our Toxik ones as they are so soft and stretchy) and I always travel in a Postcard from Brighton top. The reason again is pure comfort and of course style but the fabric is so soft and I love the feel of it. I layer up again wearing a vest underneath and tend to take a scarf with me in case I need some warmth on the plane or just to tie my kids up in - joking!! So this next outfit ticks all the boxes for me.

Obviously your holiday essentials will all depend on where you are going. I'm assuming for this blog that you are going abroad so have chosen hot holiday essentials.

Apart from the obvious bikini, shorts and vests. It think its important to remember that on holiday you want to feel comfortable and not restricted, especially to remember in the heat you can swell up slightly!

So for hot holidays I would definitely recommend taking a nice cool pair of cotton trousers, ones that can be worn day but mostly night time with a pretty top or vest. These are great as they looks lovely worn with some pretty sandals and do not require heels.

Cool Cotton Trousers

These tropical print trousers have been teamed with a bardot top & would look great  for drinks out.

The t-shirt dress has for us been our top seller for summer.  Worn during the day, over a bikini or with wedge espadrilles for drinks out. This is one dress you will wear over and over again.

If you're heading out on day trips, a cool cotton vest top is a great idea. These tend to be cooler than a jersey t-shirt. I love our Nova top in tropical print which looks good with both jeans and shorts.

Often in the heat, we don't want to wear a heel. I would invest in a summer dress that can be worn with sandals. This way you have the option of wearing it day or night all whilst keeping comfortable and not restricting yourself. This lovely tassle bardot dress has been styled with our Asia sandals. This could be worn out for night but also would look great styled over bikini. Another dress ideal for night with sandals is this Ichi Marrakesh dress, cool and floaty yet the off shoulder neckline is sexy on.

Playsuits can be a great holiday style. If you choose a light weight one, a playsuit can often be more practical if you are running after children. I particularly like our Poppy one as its not too short and looks good with flats or heels.

Lastly, I just to always pack too many shoes and ended up wearing the same ones. I have learnt now that I need 1 pair of trainers, 2 x pairs of Palmairas (but I just love them) and 2 pairs of sandals. Personally I don't take heels but that's because I can't wear them! If you can then I would pack a pair! The sandals I may add our dressier ones so that I can wear them with a dress or playsuit.

Here's to happy packing. Have a great time away!
