Being a Fashion Buyer
Friday, 9 February 2018
It's a hard job being a fashion buyer. Fashion moves so fast it's often hard to keep up.
Over the many years of having a boutique I have seen the trends come and go and sadly the older I'm getting I am seeing the trends coming back for a second time!! Ahhh yes that's me in a bardot dress the first time round!
The great thing about being a fashion buyer for a boutique is seeing the small start up labels that grow to become huge brands in their own right. Back in the day ( I'm going to sound like a war veteran now!) I actually remember sitting and doing my colouring books next to Nicole Fahri and Stephen Marks when they had just started French Connection and my parents had placed their first order. Little did we know then how big it would become. Later on we uncovered Closet London who at the time were in a small factory off a back street in London and they grew to become one of the best British manufacturers of occasionwear for independents. Look at these 2 new dresses from Closet arriving next week!
So why I am reflecting? Well as a buyer it's my job to source new brands. To uncover labels that I feel will fit into our boutique and with our customers. Having discovered Toxik jeans almost 5 years ago to Palmaira Sandals, the brands in our shop are tried and tested by me. Once I know that the quality is right and the styles are made well then its worth pursuing. But and a big but, the most important factor when I buy is that it is right for my customer. Just as I have grown older and greyer, our customer is always evolving and so we aim to find the right labels for the right time. It's so exciting when we find a new brand.
So after pursing this latest brand, we have finally secured it for the boutique. Welcome to Bewear.
A European brand that takes its influences from Vivienne Westwood, Victoria Beckham and All Saints. The quality of the fabric is second to none. Using fine lux cotton each style feels lovely to touch and are sizes good. Simple in look, the styles are all about the cut.
The new edged blazer is a wardrobe must have and can be worn at any time of year. We love it how Kate Moss has styled hers.
This Vivienne Westwood/Victoria Beckham inspired dress is just cut in all the right places. I love the relaxed fit at the top and the fitted pencil skirt, a great shape to flatter tummies and larger busts.
And for casual, this navy sweater dress is what I would choose to wear with my converse or Palmairas when it's warmer. A slightly a-line shape, this is one to wear that will really complement your figure. Perfect for everyday and being navy and red its a bang on trend, as seen on Holly.
We are very fortunate to be the only stockist of this in all of Norfolk and Suffolk.
For now we have our first drop of SS18 and will be regularly getting more lux jersey pieces as the season continues. This range is now online and in the boutique so pop in if you are local or you can order online.
